Mike Pollard – Dementia Forward Voices Podcast
The latest episode of our podcast Dementia Forward Voices is now available. This time Fiona talks to Mike from York about his experience of caring for his partner Julie, who was diagnosed with dementia in November 2012 at the age of 55. Mike is passionate about raising awareness of young onset dementia and improving both the information available to people when they receive a diagnosis and the support they receive going forward. During the pandemic, Mike has moved into Julie’s care home in order to be able to continue to see her. He talks openly and honestly about how difficult it was to no longer be able to care for Julie at home, and gives his thought and ideas on providing respite for carers of people living with young onset dementia in the future.
