We support anybody affected by dementia in North Yorkshire and York, whether they have dementia themselves or are directly involved in the care of someone with dementia. We can offer support pre-diagnosis and post-diagnosis, and can increase or reduce our support depending on an individual’s needs.
At Dementia Forward we see the whole person, not just the diagnosis. The people we support built our towns and cities, served our communities, taught our children, cared for us when we were ill. We believe that everyone should be respected and treated as an individual with their own unique tastes, desires, feelings and opinions, and we aim to get to know as much about a person as possible, so we can tailor our support.
Dementia has no prejudice, and neither does Dementia Forward. Our charity is ideally placed to help all sections of the community, regardless of age, background, ethnicity or sexual orientation. The York LGBT Forum The Forum is based in York but will support people in any part of North Yorkshire. Their helpline (07731 852533) is not manned but messages will be answered within 24hrs.
The Black Dementia Company – The Black Dementia Company was set up to help improve the well-being of people with dementia from the global African and Caribbean community. They offer a range of products on their websites, including colouring books and jigsaws.
Meri Yaadain – BAME Dementia– The Meri Yaadain (My Memories) Community Interest Company was established to support people from Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities who face barriers in accessing information, services and advocacy
