Friday 22nd May 2026
We launched Hat Day in May 2025. This has become an annual event to raise awareness, reduce stigma and raise vital funds during Dementia Action Week.
‘Don’t Keep Dementia Under Your Hat‘ instead get your friends, family members and colleagues involved by wearing a hat (the more creative the better!) and donating to Dementia Forward. Whether you’re wearing a cowboy hat, a sombrero, a simple bobble hat, or crafting your own paper hat, everyone joining in together is what really counts.
Hat Day provides an opportunity to unite communities, encourage conversations about dementia, and raise money to ensure support and resources are available for everyone affected by dementia in North Yorkshire.
How to get Involved:
Hat Day is the 22nd of May, but if that doesn’t work for you, any day during Dementia Action Week (18th-24th May) would be fantastic.
Simply pop on your hat and make a donation!
Every hat is a statement of support and a chance to start a conversation about dementia.

Make the last day of term something a bit different and do something amazing for your local dementia charity! Ask your students to wear a hat in return for a £1 donation.
Many of your staff and students will have family members and know someone affected by dementia, so Hat Day is a great opportunity for them to ask questions and learn what they can do to help people affected. We want to create a dementia-aware generation so that in the future there is no stigma around dementia, and everyone can access the support they need.
