We have taken delivery of another litter of companion cats, which are available on loan from Ballerina House in Barmby Moor. The life-like cats are designed to provide comfort and companionship to people living with dementia. They react to movement and purr and roll over when stroked – much like the real thing, but without the upkeep!
We began lending the cats out in the height of the pandemic as a way of supporting people at a time when we were unable to offer face-to-face services. The feedback was extremely positive, with many carers saying that their loved ones were calmer and less lonely. Cats were initially offered on loan, but many people became attached to their feline friends, so we now give the option for people to keep them for a donation towards the cost.
Anyone who is interested in borrowing a robotic cat can call our Helpline on 03300 578592. Cats can be collected from Ballerina House during our weekly coffee mornings – Fridays from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
Ballerina House is our beautiful hub in the Lavender Fields development in Barmby Moor Pocklington. We provide day services on a referral basis, so please get in touch to find out more. The coffee morning is open to everyone, no booking required, and is a great opportunity to meet the team and see the facilities.
