In 2017, we opened our first dementia hub, George Armitage House in Burton Leonard, thanks to a generous donation from the George Armitage Trust. George Armitage House
Our flagship hub is in Burton Leonard, a picturesque village between Ripon and Harrogate, in the heart of a fabulous community. With the support of local volunteers, we are able to offer a full programme of activities, including singing, gardening and arts and crafts. We are fortunate to have a minibus on site so are able to offer transport to some of our hub services from the surrounding area.
Richmond Hub
This cosy purpose-built house, close to Richmond town centre, has been hosting day services for people in Richmondshire for 25 years. Mrs Kathleen Walker and Mrs Doris Garget both cared for their husbands and understood the importance of providing day services for people with dementia and respite for their carers. They established the Friends of Garget Walker house and opened the property in 1996. With the support of The Friends of Garget Walker House, Dementia Forward has been able to take over the running of the building. It was officially opened by Rishi Sunak on September 3rd 2021. We are now pleased to be able to run our hub clubs, offering a full range of activities, and utilising the fantastic indoor space and garden.
Limestone View
Limestone View is a scheme of apartments with a range of retirement facilities, a short walk from the centre of Settle. We are currently running every Friday and the group is led by two experienced activities coordinators with the support of local volunteers, providing fun, meaningful activity.
Ballerina House
This beautiful, spacious property is in Barmby Moor, just outside Pocklington – part of the Lavender Fields Care Village. Hub Clubs run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, we are running weekly drop-in Community Coffee Mornings, Fridays from 10.30am until 12pm, which are open to everyone. Please come along to meet our staff, visit the building and to learn more about the services we offer over a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
Poppleton Hub
We now run a Tuesday Hub Club from the newly refurbished Church Hall at Poppleton Methodist Church. The group runs every Tuesday from 10am to 3pm, offering a range of activities, including seated exercises, games and crafts. There is also a large outside area. Please call us to find out more.
Acomb Hub
Acomb Hub Club runs on Mondays from 10am to 3pm at Our Lady’s Catholic Church in Acomb. We aim to have a mixture of busy times when the whole group are engaged in an activity, and quieter times when people can enjoy reading, knitting, doing jigsaws or spending some time one-to-one with our staff and volunteers.
Northallerton Hub
The Northallerton Hub Club is run from The Cottage Meeting Room at Northallerton Methodist Church on Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 3pm. It is coordinated by two Dementia Activity Support Workers, supported by volunteers. Please get in touch to register your interest.
Green Hammerton Hub
On the outskirts of York, Harrogate and Boroughbridge, we run our Green Hammerton Hub Club. The setting is the lovely village hall. This Hub Club runs on Thursdays from 10am to 3pm.
Welburn Hub
The Welburn Hub is in the Ryedale area. It runs on the same model as our other hubs, and is held in Welburn & Crambeck Village Hall on Fridays.
Scarborough Hub
Out most recently opened Hub is the Scarborough Hub Club, which takes place at St Mark’s Church in Newby on Mondays. We now run a weekly wellbeing cafe and Young Onset outward bound group in Scarborough.
